BOTOX – It’s Multiple Health Benefits

Most people wouldn’t think of Botox as the go to treatment for some of the biggest medical problems plaguing people today. When most people hear the word “Botox” they invariably think that it is only for the Hollywood elite. The truth is, however, that with over 2 million Botox procedures performed each year in over 20 countries worldwide, Botox has clearly become main-stream. In addition, using Botox to reduce facial wrinkles was a happy accident discovered while it was being used medically to treat patients who had uncontrollable spasms and twitching of their eye muscles.

It may also come as a big surprise to learn that the active ingredient in modern Botox was actually discovered over 100 years ago! Because Botox works by disconnecting the communication between our nerves and muscles so that specific muscles essentially become paralyzed, the use of Botox for the effective treatment of medical problems involving human muscles has been around for quite a while.

So you’re probably wondering in what kind of situation would it be necessary to paralyze muscles RIGHT? There are certain medical conditions where the muscles become “over-active or spastic”, because there has been a breakdown in communication between the brain and the muscles due to a problem with the nerves. The use of Botox in these situations is like turning off the power switch to specific muscles that have gone rogue.

The following is a list of medical conditions that have been effectively remediated by the introduction of Botox injections as a medical treatment:

    MUTIPLE SCLEROSIS

For patients who suffer from multiple sclerosis, the communication between muscles and nerves begin to break down when the insulation surrounding the nerves begins to thin out, which leads to the muscles “doing their own thing a lot of the time”. This is called spasticity and because it is uncontrollable it can lead to crippling situations. In over-active-or spastic muscles, the muscles begin to “cramp” up. This can be extremely painful and debilitating.

To put it into perspective for you, I am sure that at some time or another, without any warning at all, you have had an awful cramp in your calf or foot. Spasms like this can incapacitate a 300 lb. professional athlete in a second on the football field. There are over 650 different muscles in the human body. So imagine this happening to some of the other muscles in your body without any warning or control. This is what happens to people with Multiple Sclerosis and with each attack the insulation of the nerves is slowly being lost inside the body.

Fortunately, medical professionals have found that Botox can produce a releasing effect on the cramping muscles and help Multiple Sclerosis patients by paralyzing the muscles that are causing the problem. If the muscles causing the problems can be identified with a small electrode, they can be targeted and injected with Botox and “turned off”, or paralyzed. The cramping and spasticity stops and the patient can breath a sigh of relief.

    OVER ACTIVE BLADDER

In addition to having a physically crippling affect, there are some muscle malfunctions that have the potential for crippling a person’s social life. Our muscles all have different functions on both the inside and outside of the body. Our bladder is essentially one large muscle that squeezes like a water balloon when we urinate. This process takes precise and coordinated communication between our brain and the bladder. This is how we are able to “hold” it without having accidents in awkward situations. However, for some people the bladder becomes “spastic” and miscommunicates with their brain, which can cause the bladder to leak unexpectedly.

It is estimated that 1 in 6 adults have some version of an overactive bladder. Botox can be used to calm an overactive bladder and allow people to return to a normal lifestyle.  It requires a simple procedure during which a catheter is inserted and Botox is injected directly into the bladder.

Other options for treatment are oral medications that come with potentially harmful side effects and very invasive surgical procedures that have not yet been perfected. The benefit of Botox is that it offers a simple, effective solution with minimal side effects and lasts 6 to 9 months.

    HYPERHYDSOSIS or “Over Sweating”

Perhaps one of the best ad slogans ever created was “Never Let Them See You Sweat”. And now thanks to Botox being approved for the treatment of Hyperhydrosis, there are going to be a large amount of sufferers saying those words with pride.

Hyperhidrosis affects over 8 million people and is a condition that causes excessive sweating of the armpits, hands, feet and other areas of the body. Most people only sweat when they are working out, fearful, or anxious. But in patients with Hyperhidrosis, it happens all the time. This can be very uncomfortable and embarrassing. It can also affect business and social situations by giving a false impression of nervousness, uncleanliness, and/or anxiety. Most sufferers are too embarrassed to seek medical treatment for their condition or do not even know it exists.

Similar to its other uses, Botox’s effectiveness in decreasing excessive sweating was only discovered accidently when areas treated with Botox for other reasons were noted to have decreased sweating as well. For Hyperhidrosis patients, Botox is injected into targeted areas, which disconnects the nervous system from communicating with the sweat glands.

As with the other procedures, Botox typically takes a few minutes to inject with little discomfort. It is a very safe and effective treatment with little known side effects. The treatment will start to take effect in 5 to 7 days and will last 6 to 9 months.

Botox has also been approved for the treatment of other medical conditions such as chronic migraines and jaw pain. Patients absolutely love the results and the word is spreading: The relatively quick and effective relief from several debilitating medical conditions makes Botox a minor medical miracle.

    TESTIMONIAL

“One of my earliest childhood memories is of greeting a new friend, shaking their hand, and having them recoil in disgust and say “Eeeeuwww” because the palms of my hands were so sweaty.

I now know that there is a term for my condition: Hyperhidrosis. I have spent most of my life ashamed and embarrassed by my excessive sweating. It affects my armpits, hands, my feet and sometimes even my groin area. I know, gross.

I have spent a large amount of money over the years, as you can imagine, on powders, every kind of deoderant made, and dry cleaning. I have tried acupuncture, nutrition and even a psychic!! I have been forced to search for shoes that hopefully will not show the huge sweat stains from my feet, to wear shirts or jackets that will conceal the sweat dripping under my armpits and to tell people I have a cold, so I don’t have to shake their hands!! It has NOT been fun.

What is most bizarre about my hyperhydrosis is that I can be sitting on the couch watching a movie and my feet will be damp, and my hands clammy. Crazy…  If I am talking on the phone with someone, sometimes I hang up and discover that I am sweaty all over. I meditate often and find that even then, when I am calm, I’m sweating. There are the occasional times when I am bone dry- like when I first wake up.

About 7 years ago I had a horrific car crash and almost died. I had to have several surgeries and one of my plastic surgeons brought up the use of Botox for my Hyperhydrosis. At that time my insurance was paying for it so I eagerly tried it out. After about 20 minutes and about 30 injections under each armpit – which was a little bit painful, but a small price to pay as I saw it- I was on my way home and had just a little tenderness. Several days later I noticed that my shirts weren’t getting big sweat stains! I actually felt more comfortable. The results were amazing.

Flash forward a few years and Dr. Motykie, asked if I would like to be on the Marie Show as a patient with Hyperhidrosis, and to have Botox injections under my arms. It’s important for me to note here that to me, Dr. Motykie is one of the best surgeons I have ever had (and I’ve unfortunately had a bunch). Dr. Motykie saved me from pain and discomfort when he fixed a botched surgery that was done by another doctor in New York City. I feel safe, confident and in very capable professional hands with Dr. Motykie…. So when he asked if I wanted to volunteer to do the Botox injections I honestly felt like it was Dr. Motykie, my guardian plastic surgeon, to the rescue again! I had been dreaming of getting the Botox injections again because it worked so well in the past.

Dr. Motykie used a numbing cream prior to injections and I didn’t feel a thing. I mentioned that he did less on site injections than I had had in the past and he said it may not be necessary to do so many. It is now 2 weeks post injection and I am 70 % dryer under my arms! I notice that the sweat is pooling in the bottom part of my under arm, but no longer trickling down my side. I am feeling more comfortable and confident already! I think I need a little more to fully do the trick- and then I am going out in a gorgeous silk blouse and celebrating!!”

    Cost Components

The cost of a cosmetic surgery procedure will vary depending on how simple, brief, or elaborate the procedure is. For instance, the cost of a breast augmentation or tummy tuck surgery will differ from the cost of a brow lift or lip augmentation procedure. Some procedures involve general anesthesia, while others may involve IV sedation, local anesthesia or simply no anesthesia. The fee of anesthesiologist will influence the overall cost of the procedure.

Even within the same procedure, the extent and complexity of treatment may differ. A liposuction surgery may be performed on a single body part such as the waist area, or it may be performed on the waist, hips, thighs, arms, and neck region. In some cases, the liposuction may be performed over a period of two days. This may also include the costs of overnight stay at the operating facility. Geographical factors will also impact the overall cost of surgery. A surgery in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, and Los Angeles may cost differently from a similar surgery in Atlanta or Dallas because of the different cost of living index in different regions.

The skills, experience, and reputation of the plastic surgeon who performs a procedure will usually determine the surgeon’s fee. A cosmetic surgeon who is in superlative demand for a particular procedure may charge a higher fee because he or she may be very hard-pressed for time. This will have an impact on the overall cost of the procedure. However, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) advises patients to choose the best possible surgeon, and not go merely by the surgeon’s fee alone.

botox injectionDr. Gary Motykie is an experienced plastic surgeon providing state of the art procedures such as breast augmentation and tummy tuck. Dr. Motykie is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Patients in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and surrounding areas can receive treatment for cosmetic surgery as well as non-surgical procedures.

Patients who are looking for non-surgical treatments such as Botox have some outstanding news from the FDA. The FDA has finally approved Botox® for the cosmetic treatment of crow’s feet around the eyes. As a cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Motykie provides Botox treatment to his patients in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood and Los Angeles, if they are keen to reduce frown lines or crow’s feet from the face without undergoing a facelift surgery.

    Why Choose Botox?

People that are unhappy with signs of aging on their face, but are either unable or unwilling to go for a surgery, may choose Botox as an effective non-surgical alternative. The treatment involves almost no downtime, no general anesthesia and no risks or complications that are typically associated with a surgery. Results are visible almost immediately. Busy working people tend to choose Botox because it does not require them to alter their work schedule for even a day.

Botox is made of botulinum neurotoxin, which is one of the most powerful biological agents known to man. It is used in extremely diluted forms, in approved doses, to treat several medical as well as cosmetic problems, as approved by the FDA. With the FDA approval for treatment of crow’s feet, Botox can now be used to reduce wrinkles around the corners of the eyes. It can help make the eyes appear rejuvenated and rested.

    What are Crow’s Feet?

Clinically known as lateral canthal lines, the crow’s feet refers to the fine lines that emanate outside of frown lines from the far corners of the eyes. When a person is smiling, the crow’s feet become more conspicuous because the action of smiling activates the underlying muscles. As the muscles contract under the skin, the folds appear in the skin naturally. When the action of smiling is repeated frequently over a period of time, the skin folds become permanent.

Patients in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and other places who are not inclined in favor of cosmetic surgery, may consider Botox as an effective treatment for frown lines and crow’s feet. Botox medication is directly injected into the targeted muscle tissue that needs to be relaxed. The toxin works instantly to block communication between the muscle and the nerve, sending the muscle into a temporary state of paralysis. This makes the skin relaxed and smooth, and the wrinkle does not appear when a person smiles.

    Approval from FDA

While announcing the formal approval for Botox treatment for crow’s feet, the FDA has stated that Botox is an effective temporary treatment to help minimize wrinkles and lines that form near aging eyes, which are known as crow’s feet. In 2002, the FDA has given its first approval to Botox for cosmetic treatment of frown lines.

Prior to that, Botox use was allowed only for medication treatment of conditions such as eyelid spasms, underarm perspiration and severe migraines. Plastic surgeons have been providing Botox treatment as an effective alternative for several years to patients who may not agree to the surgery route.

    Allergan Study

Allergan, Inc., Irvine, California based manufacturer of Botox has received the approval from FDA for treatment of crow’s feet only after it successfully showed the results of a study conducted to assess the impact of the treatment. The study included two groups of adult participants, out of which one group of 833 participants was randomly chosen to receive a placebo Botox injection.

The group that was administered Botox treatment showed a substantial reduction in crow’s feet. The treatment is now approved by the FDA, but an experienced cosmetic surgeon will always advise the patient to keep realistic expectations from the outcome and remember that the results of Botox may last only for about three to six months. The treatment can, however, be repeated to prolong the results.

    FDA Caution

FDA includes a clear warning on Botox labels, which says that the toxin might spread to other areas of the body, which can result in symptoms similar to botulism. However, the FDA also notes that when Botox treatment is delivered in controlled doses, it has never resulted in a confirmed serious case of botulism. It can be inferred from the FDA warning that Botox treatment should be performed by a qualified expert in cosmetic surgery or only by a certified Botox provider.

    Dr. Gary Motykie Patient Reviews:

Dr. Gary Motykie performed 7 different procedures on me!

It’s important to state how rare it is to find a surgeon who is expert in one procedure let alone (from my experience) 7 different procedures! Dr Motykie performed for me Revision rhinoplasty, Revision breast augmentation, Revision Benelli lift, face lift, neck lift, lip lift (I needed a lot of lifting!) and facial fat grafting (under eyes and lips). He is truly an extremely talented surgeon and artist (also a very important trait for a PS). Revision surgeries are very difficult procedures & they require the skills of an expert surgeon with an artistic eye. Dr Motykie gave me the most amazing perfect nose. My boyfriend kisses it several times a day and says how beautiful I am. I healed much more quickly than my previous surgeries which is incredible given this was my third nose job and the other work I had done at the same time! He uses special techniques to help with faster healing. He also did a facelift, neck lift, lip lift, & fat grafting. Everything looks so natural; I don’t have to use fillers anymore! He also performed revision BA; they look so young and amazing now! With my revision Benelli lift one suture didn’t hold, so one areola is larger than the other. This is VERY rare, which he is fixing for free next month. This type of superior business practice and dedication to achieving the best result and happiness for his patients is evidence of how much he really cares about his patients and his work and why you want Dr Motykie to be your surgeon. I had so many procedures at once and achieved amazing results, with only a minor extremely rare suture not holding. I would never trust anyone other than Dr Motykie. He is patient, spends lot of time listening to you and talking through all procedures and options. His staff are so nice and helpful as well; their warmth and kindness are comforting as you go through this journey. I’ve used the Motykie MedSpa as well and the staff is top notch! I plan to have them perform Laser skin resurfacing when I go in for my suture fix next month.

    Very Professional

I first saw this provider on a tv show called Dr 90210 a few years back, and then ran across him again while researching doctor’s now.. During my consultaion Dr, Motykie was very professional and answered all my questions honestly, I also liked the fact that he didnt seem to rush through my consultation or push me into this surgery. And no the fact that Dr Motykie was on t.v had nothing to do with my decision to have him do my surgery 🙂 Ovedall my experience has been good and I cant wait to see my final results!

    Dr. Motykie is amazing!

Dr. Motykie is amazing, and so is his work! During my consultations with him, he was very cognizant about making sure all my questions and concerns were answered. I never got the feeling that he was too busy to spend extra time with me. The staff was great and punctual, I never had to worry about anything and when you’re already nervous about surgery to begin with, there’s nothing you want more than to feel like you’re being taken care of. During my recovery, I followed other people’s blogs who documented their tummy tuck healing process and procedures with other doctors and to be honest, I seemed to be healing at a much quicker rate than them and with less scaring too — this sealed the deal for me that I picked the right doctor. I hope this helps anyone looking for a good surgeon in the LA area, feel free to email me directly with any questions about liposuction or tummy tuck.

women in businessDr. Gary Motykie is a board certified plastic surgeon for advanced procedures such as breast augmentation and tummy tuck. Patients in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, and Los Angeles may consult with Dr. Motykie for the latest cosmetic surgery as well as non-surgical treatments to enhance their appearance.

    Cosmetic Enhancement and Job Competitiveness

A majority of patients are looking for a suitable cosmetic surgeon to improve their aesthetics in order to satisfy their inherent desire to look youthful and attractive. However, there seems to be a separate segment of women patients who are interested in plastic surgery and other cosmetic treatments primarily with an aim to maintain or improve their competitiveness at the workplace.

A number of working women in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles and other places appear to be driven by a perception that if the signs of aging become too conspicuous and make them look old or tired, it may adversely impact their career prospects. Women who seriously believe in this perception may feel the pressure to maintain eye catching looks and a youthful appearance at the place of work just to be able to compete with their younger counterparts.

Most of these women are keen to look vibrant and refreshed, but they may not really be looking for extensive ‘plastic’ jobs that could alter their appearance drastically or take several years off their face and body. Even if they continue to look their real age, they are happy with it – as long as they look healthy and vibrant for their age. Women in their 40s and 50s seem to be more inclined towards cosmetic surgery and other procedures to avoid being perceived as “too old” for certain jobs or assignments at the workplace.

    Minimally Invasive Treatments

Technological advancements and FDA approvals for various non-invasive and minimally invasive cosmetic procedures have led to a growing popularity of these treatments. Some working women may choose these procedures over the option of surgery because of some of the key benefits that these treatments offer.

Many women in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, and Los Angeles seem to be opting for treatments such as Botox, cosmetic facial fillers, chemical peels, fat freezing techniques such as CoolSculpting, laser based cosmetic enhancements and even ultrasound and radio frequency based treatments.

From a busy working woman’s perspective, some of the key benefits of non-surgical treatments are as follows:

    • Less dramatic and more natural looking results.
    • Gradual appearance of results rather than sudden changes.
    • No or little downtime involved.
    • Avoidance of risks and complications typically associated with a surgery.
    • No general anesthesia and treatment on an outpatient basis.

    Surgical Treatments for Working Women

Working women who are in their middle age and looking to ‘freeze’ their appearance of aging signs, if not ‘reverse’ the signs, may opt for surgical procedures such as breast augmentation and tummy tuck with a reputed plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, or other places. Many of the women in this age group may not be looking for extensive treatment, and may just opt for a partial tummy tuck or partial facelift.

Some women may, in fact, request the cosmetic surgeon to keep their facial wrinkles, and just soften their impression. Their goal is to look natural and look their age, but somehow prolong their current appearance for a few more years and prevent very conspicuous signs of aging from setting in. While there is no evidence to suggest that employers may be discriminating on the basis of looks, but the feedback from many working women indicates their belief that good looks can somehow help them improve or maintain their job competitiveness.

Job Retention in a Slow Economy

An interesting phenomenon appears to emerge during the times of economic slowdown. During such periods when job uncertainty becomes higher, layoffs are more frequent and new jobs are harder to come by, working women seem to pay more attention to their appearance to ensure they remain job competitive. A survey of 756 women compiled by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) in 2009 indicated that a significant number of working women think that plastic surgery and other cosmetic techniques can increase their chances of success in their jobs.

As many as 73 percent of the respondents in the ASPS survey stated that when the economic conditions are more difficult, looks can play a role in finding a job, receiving a promotion or bringing new business for the employer. Four in five respondents said that they believe a cosmetic treatment can help improve their confidence levels, which is a competitive strength at the workplace.

The Marie Show featured a talk on this subject by Dr. Gary Motykie, a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in Beverly Hills, California!

Dr. Gary Motykie offers alternative advice before going under the knife for a nip and tuck. The experienced Beverly Hills plastic surgeon stresses the importance of eating nutritious foods versus counting calories. He speaks about the poor status of the standard American diet (S.A.D.) because you’re getting too many toxins and preservatives. Instead, he promotes juicing to cleanse the body. Prior to surgery, you should be in good health because procedures put a lot of stress on your body. In lieu of liposuction, Dr. Gary explains a non-invasive method of freezing your fat.

Check out the notes from the show on how to look and feel younger, from licensed plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills, Dr. Gary Motykie:

    Antioxidant Diet Foods

    • Blueberries/blackberries/raspberries
    • Garbanzo beans/White Beans/Kidney Beans
    • Artichokes
    • Prunes

    Antioxidant Supplements

    • Milk Thistle Extract: Used for thousands of years to improve health.
    • Bacopa Extract: A serious free-radical scavenger.
    • Ashwagandha: Supports a healthy immune system.
    • Turmeric Extract: Powerful contributor
    • Green Tea Extract: Contains important antioxidants.
    • Protandim with Nrf2
      1. Nrf2 fights oxidative stress.
      2. Nrf2 helps the body regulate at peak efficiency.
      3. Nrf2, a protein messenger that binds itself to DNA, is the master regulator of the body’s aging process and is critical in the fight against oxidative stress.
      4. Nrf2 communicates with cells, instructing them to do what they’re already designed to do. When activated, Nrf2 enters the nucleus of a cell and up-regulates “survival genes,” genes that enable cells to survive in the face of stress from free radicals and other oxidants, and down-regulates other genes that promote inflammation and fibrosis to help the body function at an optimal level.

    Say Goodbye to Stubborn Fat.

It’s called stubborn fat for a reason: no matter how much you eat healthy and exercise, it’s virtually impossible to lose those annoying muffin tops, love handles, and belly pooch. You’re left with two options: live with them or think surgery. Neither is cool by us. That’s exactly why we developed CoolSculpting. Only CoolSculpting targets fat cells alone, eliminating them in an easy, non-intrusive fashion that exercise and diet can’t achieve as quickly or as effectively.

The Cool Solution is the More Natural Solution.

Procedures that use laser, sonic waves and even surgery to remove fat can actually destroy other tissue in the process by burning, shattering or extracting non-fat cells. This requires downtime for your body to heal. Totally uncool. Fortunately, CoolSculpting doesn’t burn, shatter or extract any cells. Developed by Harvard scientists, our unique, FDA-cleared, patented procedure uses a targeted cooling process that kills the fat cells underneath the skin, literally freezing them to the point of elimination. Only fat cells are frozen. Your healthy skin cells remain, well, healthy. No knives. No suction hoses. No needles. No scars. Once crystallized, the fat cells die and are naturally eliminated from your body. In a few months, boom: say hello to a new you.

Breast Augmentation Beverly HillsWhat is Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation is an effective way to enhance breast size in case a woman is unhappy with the size of her breasts. Smaller breasts may occur due to genetic factors, or in some cases a woman may lose breast volume following a pregnancy, breastfeeding, or major weight loss. In all such cases, placement of artificial implants underneath the breast tissue can enhance the size of breasts as desired.

    How is it performed?

Breast implant procedure is performed usually under general anesthesia. The procedure begins with the surgeon making an incision at a pre-determined location, which could be the breast fold, the belly button, the armpit, or the areola. Through the incision, the surgeon will place the silicone or saline breast implant. The placement can be done under the chest muscle or below the breast tissue.

The choice of implant, the location of the incision and the placement of implant will be decided prior to the surgery during a consultation between the patient and the surgeon. A surgeon who is experienced in breast implant plastic surgery will be able to create the most appropriate treatment plan to match the needs of the patient.

    Implant Types

FDA has approved two types of breast implants, which include silicone gel based implants and saline solution based implants. The outer shell for both types of implants is made of silicone elastomer, which is a highly biocompatible material. Choice between silicone and saline implants can be made by the patient.

A surgeon will usually be able to provide both saline and silicone implant options. However, some surgeons may have a preference for either silicone or saline implants, based on their personal experience. In reality, both silicone and saline implants have their own perceived advantages and disadvantages. Both implant types are accepted widely among breast augmentation patients.

    Pre-op Consultation

The patient should be candid during pre-op consultations and explain her needs and aspirations about breast implants to the surgeon very clearly. This will help the plastic surgeon to recommend the most appropriate implant type and size. The surgeon will also evaluate the patient’s medical condition, family history, and anatomical features to give appropriate advice.

Discreet photographs will be taken during the pre-op visit to maintain a medical record, and will also be helpful at the time of surgery. The pre-op breast exam will include evaluation of the nipple position and breast mound, shape of the chest wall and assessment of any breast disproportion.

    Breast Implant Placement

The breast implant pocket can be placed in three ways:

    • Above the chest muscle and below the breast mound
    • Below the chest muscle
    • Partly below the chest muscle and partly below the breast mound

Different surgeons may have different opinions regarding the ideal placement of implant pocket. However, any preference among these methods has not been determined scientifically till date. In some cases, the patient’s breast anatomy may prompt the cosmetic surgeon to decide on a particular placement method.

    Incision Sites

Location of the incision for breast enhancement plastic surgery may be chose by the surgeons as per their expertise and past experience with a particular implant placement approach. The incision is usually about an inch in length, but it may be slightly longer in case of silicone implants. Common locations for the incision include the following:

    •       Under the armpit
    •       Below the areola
    •       Within the breast fold
    •       Through the belly button

In each of these cases, the goal is to place the implants with minimum difficulty and achieving inconspicuous scarring.

    Procedure

Once the incision has been made in the pre-decided location, a breast pocket is created in the targeted position. This is followed by the insertion of an implant sizer in the pocket, which is positioned behind the nipple. The goal is to minimize the tissue invasion so that the patient has quicker recovery and low risk of complications.

When the final shape and size of the implants is determined, the sizers are removed and replaced with permanent breast implants. Once the cosmetic surgery procedure is completed, the incisions will be closed, and compression wraps will be placed on the breasts.

Brazilian Butt LiftFor several decades, women have requested buttock enhancement to fulfill their desire for a curvier backside. In the past, the most common procedure was the insertion of an implant into the buttocks that was similar to the modern breast implant. This surgery carried a high risk of complications and infections, and thus buttock implants never gained mainstream popularity.

Luckily, a new alternative has been championed over the last several years known as the Brazilian Butt Lift. This procedure involves modern liposuction technology and techniques that transfer a patient’s own fat to their buttock area. In essence, a Brazilian Butt Lift consists of two procedures in one: liposuction and fat grafting to the buttock.

The Brazilian Butt Lift is therefore a “two-for-one” procedure because it enables both body contouring through removal of fat from unwanted areas of the body while also adding significant volume to the buttocks. Dr. Motykie has been performing fat grafting techniques for many years and he has perfected his own Brazilian Butt Lift technique. See Brazilian Butt Lift Before and After Photos

    What is the Procedure?

The surgery takes approximately two to three hours. The first part of the surgery is liposuction to harvest fat for unwanted “trouble” areas such as the thighs and stomach.  Dr. Motykie uses the latest liposuction technology that preserves the survival of the fat. The fat is then purified and prepared for re-injection I to the buttocks. Therefore, the areas where the fat is removed will become slimmer and your buttocks will be augmented and lifted.

Typically, it is estimated that 70 to 80 percent of the fat cells injected into the buttocks will survive if the fat is removed properly and re-injected by an experienced surgeon that is using modern techniques. Due to these high survival rates, the fat cells will thrive long-term in Dr Motykie’s patients. The final results of the fat grafting procedure can usually be seen within three months after surgery during which time the definition and final shape of the buttocks will begin to appear.

Will Exercise Ruin my New Buttocks?

Dr. Motykie specifically targets and removes fat cells from stubborn areas of the body where losing fat is typically difficult for the patient. Surgeons refer to these fat cells as having “institutional memory” because they are resilient to dieting and have higher survival rates when transferred to a different area on the same body.  In other words, fat cells that are transferred from stubborn “trouble” areas will still think they are in the thighs or waist even though they have been transferred to the buttocks. These “grafted” fat cells remain “stubborn” and maintain their volume long-term. Therefore, if you exercise on a regular basis you can still lose weight and tone other areas of the body without jeopardizing your new curvy backside.

What Should I Expect During Recovery?

Dr. Motykie recommends a recovery time of about two to three weeks following a Brazilian Butt Lift during which time he asks his patients to refrain from sitting on the fat grafting for excessive amounts of time as well as avoiding “fat burning” exercises.  Patients are given a compressive garment to wear for several weeks after surgery in order to help reduce swelling and bruising. Bruising usually disappears sometime in the first several weeks following surgery but the swelling takes approximately several months to subside completely. During recovery, the buttocks will continue to “shape-up” while the areas where liposuction was performed will continue to shrink along with the resolution of post-operative swelling.
