Breast lift with implants cosmetic surgery will usually involve a downtime of one week to 10 days before you can slowly return to your normal routine. The recovery process can vary depending on the breast lift technique used, the size of your implants, and whether implant placement is below or above the pectoral muscle.
At the time of pre-op consultation, your surgeon will discuss all aspects of the procedure with you, including expected recovery. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Gary Motykie provides breast augmentation with lift to patients in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and surrounding communities.
First Two Weeks
The first 24 to 48 hours after your breast implants with lift plastic surgery can be uncomfortable as the anesthesia effect completely wears off. Your surgeon will prescribe pain medications, which will mitigate any pain or discomfort. In the first two to three days, it would be best if you can have a family member or friend stay with you to help you recover physically as well as emotionally.
The bandages applied to your incision areas following your surgery will be removed in two to three days and replaced with a surgical bra. You should wear this special bra all the time for extra support to the breasts in the first two weeks or more. Temporary drains and sutures may be removed in about seven to 10 days.
First Few Months
Following your breast lift with implants plastic surgery, bruising in the breasts will resolve largely within the first two weeks. However, swelling will take longer time to completely disappear. You may also experience sensitivity in the treated sites, and some numbness in the areolas and nipples may occur.
For at least four to six weeks, you should avoid vigorous exercises or lifting of heavy weights. While you can return to your workplace in about 10 to 14 days, you should only choose work activities that are less physically demanding for at least two or three weeks after you join.
Any injury to the breast tissue will prolong your recovery time and may even diminish the quality of your results. Follow the surgeon’s instructions carefully about avoiding smoking and blood thinner medications for at least a certain period after your surgery.
Follow-up Appointments
Your surgeon may probably want to see the very next day after surgery to check for hematoma and other potential concerns. You will also need to visit the surgeon’s office at the time of drain and sutures removal. Your next appointment could be a month later to review your healing progress. When you want to restart your regular exercise and fitness regiment, consult with your surgeon before you go ahead.
Massage Regimen
In some cases, massaging your breasts could help in improving the swelling and expedite your recovery. You should only work with a trained massage therapist and discuss with your surgeon before starting. Cosmetic surgeon Dr. Gary Motykie receives patients from Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and nearby areas for breast lift with implants surgery.
