Tummy Tuck Beverly Hills | Abdominoplasty Los Angeles
Some of the most common complaints voiced by potential abdominoplasty patients include: not wanting to show their abdomen to others due to sagging skin, stretch marks and abdominal bulging and/or the inability to cover an abdominal pooch that protrudes even through clothing. Many patients are so embarrassed by the appearance of their abdomen that they avoid exposure of the abdomen to the extent that it interferes with social, leisure and sexual activities.
During your consultation, Dr Motykie will give you a clear understanding of which type of abdominal surgery will best meet your expectations and appropriately address your concerns and problem areas. Dr. Motykie will evaluate all three layers of your abdomen (skin, muscle and fat) in order to determine which type of corrective abdominal procedure best suites your needs and desires. A fat only problem usually equals liposuction. Fat and skin problem typically equals a mini-abdominoplasty. Skin, fat and muscle problem commonly equals a full abdominoplasty.
Ideal candidates for mini-abdominoplasty are mainly displeased with the contour and bulges of their lower abdomen, especially when sitting. When the intra-abdominal volume increases with weight gain or pregnancy, the fibrous connection between the abdominal muscles may stretch to a point where muscle strengthening and exercise will not put the muscle back together again. At this point, surgical repair is the only wayto restore a more natural/normal contour to your abdomen. A mini-abdominoplasty can only address the muscles of the lower abdomen whereas a full abdominoplasty can address the muscles of both the upper and lower abdomen. A full abdominoplasty can remove abdominal stretch marks below your belly button and transport any remaining stretch marks from above your belly button to your lower abdomen. During a full abdominoplasty, the belly button is moved. Since the belly button is a focal point in the abdominal surface anatomy, it is critical for you to describe to Dr Motykie which type of belly button you may find the most aesthetically pleasing as well as the exact location of the belly button you may prefer post-operatively.
It is important to let Dr Motykie and/or his staff know about any pre-existing medical conditions you may have as well as any possible drug allergies or past surgical procedures. In addition, it is important to disclose the use of any current medications, vitamins, herbal supplements, alcohol, tobacco and/or drugs. It is imperative to let Dr Motykie know if you have had any previous surgeries on your abdomen because they can affect the results of your surgery and/or limit the potential results of a tummy tuck.
Your overall health will be discussed as well as any prior surgical procedures you may have had on your abdomen since the resulting scars would need to be examined to determine the safety and planning of the procedure as well as to evaluate for any possible incisional or umbilical hernias. In women who have undergone prior cesarean section, the existing scars may often be incorporated into the new scar. If a C-section scar is already present Dr Motykie will address whether it is placed at a level on your lower abdomen that is appropriate for removal and/or inclusion in your abdominoplasty procedure. Dr Motykie will advise you that future significant weight fluctuations and/or pregnancy can reverse some of the benefits of undergoing an abdominoplasty. Therefore, an abdominoplasty should most likely be postponed if you are still planning on losing substantial weight as well as if you are planning a pregnancy in the near
future. Similarly, an abdominoplasty will not prevent you from becoming pregnant in the future and it will not harm you or your child during or after the course of a future pregnancy.
Cost is always a consideration in elective surgery. At the conclusion of your consultation you will have the opportunity to meet with Dr Motykie’s surgical consultant who will be able to explain to you the possible cost and timing of your abdominoplasty procedure. Cost may include surgeon’s fee, surgical facility costs, anesthesia fees, prescription medications, post-surgery garments, and medical screening tests. Although insurance does not typically cover the costs of a tummy tuck, you may be eligible for some benefits if you have developed and incisional and/or umbilical hernia during your pregnancy or as a result of prior abdominal surgery. Dr Motykie’s consultant will also be able to explain to you all of your possible financing options as well as if any portion of your procedure may be able to be covered by your medical insurance. Remember, a surgeon’s cost for a tummy tuck will vary based on their experience, the type of procedure being performed as well as the geographic location of their office. Please do not bargain shop for your plastic surgery and also make sure that you are not overpaying for your procedure by doing your home work, online research and obtaining several opinions from different board certified plastic surgeons before making your final decision about having your own abdominoplasty procedure.
