Procedure Steps
Breast augmentation with lift is a more comprehensive plastic surgery procedure, which should ideally by performed by fully trained and experienced plastic surgeon. Your surgeon will perform it at an accredited surgery center or a hospital where all safety systems and emergency procedures are in place.
Once you are in the operating room for your surgery, the anesthesia team will administer general anesthesia, which will put you in deep sleep for the time that you are in the surgery room. An anesthesiologist or a registered nurse anesthetist will be present in the room throughout to monitor your response to anesthesia.
After anesthesia, your procedure will begin with the surgeon placing discreet incisions in your breast area in the marked locations. In many cases, the incision may be created around the areola edges along with a second incision going vertically down to the base of the breast. The incisions will be in accordance with your custom surgery plan decided in advance.
Your surgeon will place the silicone or saline implants below or above your chest muscle through the incisions. Once the implants are adjusted into the surgical pockets created in the breast tissue, the surgeon will perform the breast lift. They will trim away the loose breast skin using the same incisions and tighten the weak tissue to provide a subtle lift to your breasts.
When breast implants and lift are performed together, it is usually necessary to elevate the position of your nipples and areolas to a new level to create a natural look. The complete procedure may take anywhere from 90 to 150 minutes in the surgery room.
Closing the Incisions and Next Steps
Once the surgery is completed and the implants have been adjusted into the desired position, your surgeon will close the incisions with removable or dissolvable sutures. Temporary drain tubes will be placed underneath your incision sites to collect excess fluid.
The breasts will be wrapped in bandages initially, and will eventually be replaced with a special surgical bra. You will have to wear this bra for a few weeks as per your surgeon’s instructions.
